Reunion Island Coffee Review

If you asked me a few years ago if I wanted a cup of coffee I would have laughed at you. I worked a lot of late nights and on top of never liking the taste of coffee I also didn't need anything to keep me awake longer. Winding down and getting into sleep mode after work was hard enough without throwing coffee into the mix.

My love affair with coffee finally began about 3 years ago. I started working mornings in administration and coffee became a regular thing for me. Now I need it. Now I CRAVE it.  Not only do I grab a coffee each morning in drive thru on my way to work but I also leave my house on Saturday and Sunday mornings to hit the drive thru for my coffee fix....usually while still in my PJ's :)

So the question everyone asks me is "why don't you make coffee at home?". It is a simple answer really. I honestly have not found one that I like. I can't seem to find a brand that suits me. I have tried everything from cheap coffee to the ridiculously expensive coffee. I have bought well known name brands and I have bought brands that most people probably never heard of. The one thing I hadn't tried yet was coffee beans that I grind myself.

When Reunion Island Coffee contacted me to do a review I responded with a giant coffee addicted YES!!! My package arrived and I was thrilled to see that it was coffee beans that I had to grind myself. Double Yes!! Something I hadn't tried before!!  I was dying to give this coffee a taste test when I suddenly realized that I didn't own a coffee bean grinder (oops!). One short trip to a local store and I purchased myself a cheap one at $7.77 that works perfectly.

I have to tell you.  I enjoyed Reunion Island Coffee.  It did take me a little getting used to the grinding of the beans and I found I was off a little when measuring out my grounds to water ratio.  I originally put less in grinds than I was supposed to .  The measurement recommendation on the package just looked like a lot compared to what I was used to measuring.  The Columbia Las Hermosas coffee I was sent suggests 2 tablespoons per 180 ml cup and I was afraid it would turn out too strong.  Note to self : Always follow directions :)

I found the flavour of this coffee to be bold without being overpowering.  Reunion Island Coffee puts a scale on the bag that goes from Mild to Bold and the coffee I was sent rated around the middle of that scale.  It was perfect for me.  I don't like my coffee too weak but I don't think I would have enjoyed a coffee rated at the high end of the boldness scale.  This coffee was very smooth to me.  Much smoother than the coffees I have tried in the last few months.  I am quite happy with it.

Reunion Island Coffee  is based in Oakville, Ontario.  I love that they are a Canadian based company.  It was founded in 1996 and the company is also involved with Organic and Fair Trade products.

As for me ... I'm off to brew another pot :)

Reunion Island Coffee provided me with a bag of coffee and a travel coffee mug. My opinion was not influenced by this. I was not monetarily compensated for this review.
